{"id":332,"date":"2010-11-11T11:36:48","date_gmt":"2010-11-11T16:36:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shainmiley.com\/wordpress\/?p=332"},"modified":"2010-11-11T11:36:48","modified_gmt":"2010-11-11T16:36:48","slug":"performance-and-scalability-improvements-in-mysql-5-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shainmiley.com\/wordpress\/2010\/11\/11\/performance-and-scalability-improvements-in-mysql-5-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Performance and scalability improvements in Mysql 5.5"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oracle&#8217;s Mysql Blog has a very <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.oracle.com\/mysql\/2010\/11\/mysql_55_performance_and_scalability_unleashed.html\">good post<\/a> that provides an overview of some of the improvements that you can expect in the upcoming Mysql 5.5 release.  <\/p>\n<p>This writeup focuses mainly on the changes as they relate to performance and scalability,  however the author (<a href=\"http:\/\/en.oreilly.com\/mysql2010\/public\/schedule\/speaker\/7458\">Rob Young<\/a>) expresses his plans to discuss other aspects as well, sometime in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>Here are just a few of the topics covered by Rob:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Improved Default Thread Concurrency<\/li>\n<li>Improved Recovery Performance<\/li>\n<li>Multiple Buffer Pool Instances<\/li>\n<li>Native Asynchronous I\/O for Linux<\/li>\n<li>Improved Metadata Locking Within Transactions<\/li>\n<li>Better performance on Windows based installs <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At some point I hope to continue my testing and benchmarking of several different versions of Mysql such as <a href=\"http:\/\/mariadb.org\/\">MariaDB<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.percona.com\/\"> Percona<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/dev.mysql.com\/downloads\/mysql\/5.5.html\">Mysql 5.5<\/a>.
